Art historian and curator. She graduated from the Faculty of Arts at Comenius University in Bratislava (1980) and continued studying for a research degree in art history. Katarína Bajcurová worked at the Institute for Art Studies of the Academy of Sciences (1983 – 1994, after 1990 the Institute for Art History of the Slovak Academy of Sciences). Since 1994, she has been working at the Slovak National Gallery, initially as a curator of the Collection of Slovak Painting of the second half of the 20th century, later as a deputy director, and from 1999 to 2009 as Managing Director of the Slovak National Gallery. She is currently working as a curator of the Modern and Contemporary Art Collection. She specialises in 20th century Slovak sculpture and painting. Katarína Bajcurová has published several monographs, and has been involved in the preparation of a number of major exhibition projects of the Slovak National Gallery, and monographic exhibitions of leading 20th century Slovak artists. She was the curator of the Slovak exhibition at the 46th Biennale in Venice (1995) and the 26th Bienal de São Paulo (2004). In 2008, she won the Martin Benka Award, and in 2017 the Tatra banka Foundation Award for Art (with Petra Hanáková and Bohunka Koklesová). Katarína Bajcurová lectured on Slovak modern art history in the Department of Art History of the Faculty of Arts at Comenius University. She is an expert on Slovak modern art, and a member of the Slovak Section of the International Association of Critics AICA.
